I've just finished the rework of my portfolio website as you can see. I decided to strip back everything and go for a very minimalist approach to ensure the focus was kept on my work. Also at the back of my mind i thought " A minimalist site that won't take long", definitely not the case. If anything this site has taken the longer to prepare to make sure I get the right balance between whitespace and content.
With this re-design I felt it was important to implement several new elements that I can update frequently. Hence why I am starting this blog, I have my latest tweet displaying on the homepage and I have also put a flickr feed on the homepage.
There are two main reasons I have decided to take the site in this direction:
1. I feel I should get with the times and represent myself online as a designer rather than with a static website. These new elements will allow me to constantly add little bits and pieces to keep the site fresh and interesting.
2. I have just started a post grad course at Dundee University called Masters of Design and I need somewhere to document my thoughts, findings and solutions. It seemed logical to combine all my work into the one area and this is it.
I intend to use this blog to document the work I am doing on the masters course alongside anything else I find interesting. My next post will be up soon explaining a bit more about what I am looking to achieve with my masters project.
Re-design of the site.
